The cold and flu season lasts from October until May–which means that for more than half the year, there’s a chance your family might fall ill.  Nobody enjoys being sick, but the flu virus can lead to stomach pain, high fever, fatigue–and more.  As we’ve seen this year, it’s important to take precautions to keep your family safe!

A Few Tips to Keep Your Family Safe

Wash Your Hands

It seems obvious, but we aren’t just repeating what your mother always said.  Washing your hands is crucial for keeping germs away from you. When you wash your hands, use hot water and soap, and scrub vigorously for at least 20 seconds. Help your kids remember to do this, too—they should wash for as long as it takes them to sing their “ABC’s.”  Wash between the fingers, and don’t forget the back of your hands!

Exercise

Sure, the benefits of regular exercise are huge.  It helps your heart, can keep off—or help you lose—those extra pounds, and it also boosts your immune system!  Helping you beat back germs and viruses while doing something that benefits your entire system?  Totally worth it.

Wash Your Hands (Again!)

Ok, we are definitely trying to sound like your mom now.  Don’t forget to do this when you’re out in public places. You can’t control what the people around you do, so you never know where viruses are lurking, or where you might be exposed.  Several times a day, especially when you’re out and about, remember what mom always said: wash your hands!

Clean the House

Get out your favorite cleaner and go to work!  Countertops, doorknobs, computer keyboards, remote controls—these are just a few of the places where germs like to hang out.  So get to work and clean those frequently-used surfaces as often as you can—and give the whole house a once over at least once a week.  And when you get done cleaning the house, you may want to remember one area that’s underfoot but often overlooked: your carpets. Carpets carry bacteria due to foot traffic, but airborne allergens are found there, too.  Which means that a sneeze in the living room may just leave something in your carpet you didn’t expect!

We recommend cleaning your carpets, furniture and floors at least once a year–and now is a good time to protect your family with the Marshall Cleaning Service’s guarantee to arrest your dirt and leave you with a healthy home!  We have lots of ways to help give your family the clean and healthy place you want for them.
